Save the Children
Cogent were delighted to be selected in January to carry out nationwide store inspections for Save the Children on a three year agreement. The works consist of inspections on circa 140 stores from Cornwall in the South to Lerwick in Scotland and all points in-between including Northern Ireland and the Isle of Man.
The inspections include a fire risk assessment, electrical testing and remedial work, fire alarm inspections, emergency lighting inspections, PAT testing and fire extinguisher servicing and repairs.
These works are carried out by our own engineers and repeated every six months to help ensure the safety of Save the Children staff, volunteers and customers.
The American School in London

In the summer of 2010 Cogent electrical began work on the extensive upgrade of the electrical infrastructure at The American School in London in St Johns Wood. The School was opened at its current site in 1971 and the existing Electrical installation was in need of an upgrade.
The School operates 365 days per year with many out of curricular activities taking place during evenings, weekends & school holidays for example, Summer Kindergarten Camp & Basketball club.
With this in mind, specific restraints were imposed by the client as to when any installation works could proceed and progress. Working closely with the School & the design team Ernest Griffiths, Cogent coordinated a detailed programme for the Work with detailed Risk and Method statements for all aspects of the mains electrical installation works including all associated shutdown procedures, temporary supplies and generators etc.
During the summer of 2014 UK Power Networks (UKPN) are upgrading the main incoming supply from its current 700kVA to 920kVA. To facilitate the upgrade Cogent are providing full 24/7 generator back up & temporary supplies to the whole school for the duration of the project.
As part of the supply upgrade Cogent will be installing a new Main 1600Amp LV panel to accept the new utility supply and feed existing LV panels, previously installed by Cogent.
During the summer of 2014 Cogent will be carrying out other projects which include:
- New distribution & Containment to the lower school
- Refurbishment of Classroom & office areas
- Supply diversions to facilitate a new plant area
- Full electrical inspection & testing
Workspace Group PLC
The start of 2013 heralds the commencement of two major projects for Cogent working on the refurbishment of Great Guildford Street for Kind and Company Ltd and the refurbishment of Green Heath Business Centre for HG Construction Ltd. The combined value of these two projects is in excess of £2.50 million.
The works will create business units for the ever expanding Workspace portfolio and include power, data, lighting, fire alarm and solar photovoltaic panels.
Workspace provides business premises tailored to the needs of new and growing companies across London and owns over 100 properties providing 5.4 million square feet of space and is home to some 4,000 businesses employing over 30,000 people.
Cogents ten year association with Workspace continues with the development of three Club Workspace sites in Kennington, Chiswick and Bankside providing early stage businesses the opportunity to work in inspiring co-working space within an active community of entrepreneurs, freelancers and professionals.
Cogent work on these spaces include the provision of power, data and feature lighting to provide individual and creative spaces.
Selfridges Department Store
Cogent have been involved with the Selfridges since July 2012 and have carried out a range of varied electrical projects working for the Selfridges Property Services Department, directly to concessions as well as fit out contractors.
As preferred electrical contractor for Selfridges we work alongside the stores property team on a 24/7 basis as required whilst complying with strict health and safety procedures and permit to work requirements. We have also carried out works in Selfridge’s flagship store in the Bull Ring, Birmingham.
We have carried out all types of electrical works to include containment for electrical and data, floor box installation, small power including non-essential, essential and point of sale outlets, amenity, general and display lighting, special effect lighting, central system emergency lighting, internal and external Christmas lighting to the entire store and NICEIC Installation and Periodic testing.
The Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE)
Following the demise of the main contractor Killby & Gayford (K&G), Cogent were delighted to be re-appointed by ICE through Gardiner & Theobald Construction Management (GTCM) to complete the refurbishment of ICE’s new office building which Cogent had commenced with K&G.
The works consisted of five floors of offices with associated staff facilities with the lower ground floor providing staff breakout areas.
ICE took possession in December 2012
June 2014 sees Cogent start another fit out project for Stone Circle, a large family run Masonry business, having previously fitted out the show room in Newbury Berks, the latest project is to fit out a large brand new purpose built workshop in Basingstoke Hampshire, the building is 80mrts x 30mrts and will contain stone cutting equipment, lifting gear, offices and welfare facilities.
Cogent involvement includes for supply and installation of a HV transformer, Switch gear, Machine supplies, lighting, Fire Alarm, Data, lightning protection and Security works, valued at circa 200K
Cogent will have 6-8 operatives working on the project for 3 months.
We are currently 75% complete on Cogent’s 2nd project with Mercury Engineering: Aldgate Tower, Aldgate, London.
Aldgate Tower is a 16 Story building for office use, Cogent’s involvement is the 16 stories of the core area, which includes Lift Lobby, WCs, Risers and service areas. The Works include for Lighting and Small Power both Modular wiring systems, and termination of Distribution Boards. Cogent have also been awarded the Testing of the entire property to include all the main and sub main distribution, some 100 Distribution Boards.
Cogent have between 12 and 17 Engineers working on the project with a project value of £750K
